New Features

V2.1.1 of USBTrace which is now available for download has the following 2 new features added:

You can now adjust the size of USBTrace’s internal capture buffer. This helps you to increase/decrease the maximum amount of data which can be captured by USBTrace in a single capture session. This feature is available only in the registered version of the product. In the evaluation version, the maximum capture limit is, as before, 256KB.

Wireless USB (WUSB) is the future for short-range high bandwidth media (data) transfers. Some of the very first wireless USB enabled devices have started to appear in the market recently. Existing systems (laptops, desktops) can be made ‘WUSB Compatible’ using USB 2.0 devices known as Host Wire Adapters (HWA). The WUSB Host Wire Adapter is a subclass of the Wireless Controllers USB device class (Class Code: 0xE0).

We have released a new class decoder plug-in for USBTrace for analyzing USB devices which belong to the Host Wire Adapter device class. USBTrace, our USB monitoring software for windows, can now capture, decode and display WUSB HWA class specific requests.

WUSB HWA Class specific requests, Notification Information & Transfer Requests are captured and decoded by USBTrace with the help of this decoder. To know more, please visit http://www.sysnucleus.com/usbtrace_cd_wusb.html

If your job involves writing device drivers / firmware for USB devices or compliance testing of USB devices, you might want to try our USB analyzing software solution. You can download a 15-days free evaluation version from http://www.sysnucleus.com/usbtrace_download.html.

We have released a new version of USBTrace which has the ability to decode vendor specific class requests. The vendor class decoder can be used to capture, analyze and decode your devices which belong to the USB Vendor Specific device class (Class Code: 0xFF).

You can learn more about vendor specific class decoding at : http://www.sysnucleus.com/usbtrace_cd_vendor.html

We have released the x64 edition of USBTrace. This edition works with the 64-bit versions of Windows XP, 2003 server and Vista operating systems.

You can download and evaluate the 64-bit edition from http://www.sysnucleus.com/usbtrace_download_x64.html .

V2.1 Released

USBTrace version 2.1.0 has been released. You can download the latest release from http://www.sysnucleus.com/usbtrace_download.html

The new features are :

  1. Added performance statistics module
  2. Enhanced Export Utility with feature to export captured data to CSV file format

The Performance Statistics feature allows users to extract a lot of performance related information from the captured data after each capture session.

The Export Utility had been updated. Captured data can now be exported to CSV (Comma Separated Values) format. The advantage of exporting data to CSV is that, users can open the exported data using Microsoft Excel (or any other spreadsheet application) and process the data in a variety of ways.

Please try the evaluation version and let us know your feedback.

Performance statistics module has been added to the latest released version of USBTrace (v2.1.0 Build 39).

The performance statistics window displays valuable performance related information related to your device/driver. This feature extracts the performance details from the captured data. You can view the performance details for the last made capture as well as for previously saved captured data using this feature.

The Performance Statistics window displays the following information regarding Control, Bulk, Interrupt & Isochronous transfers:

  • Amount of data written to / read from the device
  • Number of passed / failed USB requests
  • Average read / write data transfer rates
  • Maximum read / write data transfer rate

In addition to this,  the read/write data transfer rate graph (xfer rate v/s packet count) is also displayed.

We recommend you to download and try the latest version of USBTrace, the software only USB protocol analyzer for Microsoft Windows; to learn more about the features.

The search and filter windows have been updated in version 2.0.2 (Build #37) of USBTrace. The update allows you to search/filter captured USB requests based on the following additional parameters:

  1.  Status of request (Success or Failure)
  2.  Direction (IN or OUT)
  3.  Data (With data or Without data)

USB Video devices (webCams, digital camcoders, analog video convertors, analog and digital television tuners and still image cameras that support video streaming), which confirms to the USB Video Class Specification (v1.0 & v1.1) can be analyzed using the Video Class Decoder. The decoder will capture, decode and display USB Video class specific requests and data. Both Video Control (VC) & Video Streaming (VS) interfaces are supported.

The types of requests captured are:

  • Video Control (VC) Requests
    • Interface Control Requests
      • Power Mode Control
      • Request Error Code Control
    • Unit and Terminal Control Requests
      • Camera Terminal Control Requests
      • Selector Unit Control Requests
      • Processing Unit Control Requests
      • Extension Unit Control Requests
  • Video Streaming (VS) Requests
    • Interface Control Requests
      • Video Probe and Commit Control
      • Video Still Probe and Still Commit Control
      • Synch Delay Control
      • Still Image Trigger Control
      • Generate Key Frame Control
      • Update Frame Segment Control
      • Stream Error Code Control

In addition to capturing class specific requests the Video Decoder also captures video and still image payload data (both bulk and isochronous).

You can evaluate USBTrace, the usb analyzer for Windows, from http://www.sysnucleus.com/usbtrace_download.html.

Digital still photography devices which belongs to the Still Image Capture device class can be analyzed/debugged using the Still Image Capture class decoder. The decoder will display class specific requests and the PIMA 15740 protocol data, which addresses the requirements for interconnecting digital photography devices.

The class specific requests decoded are :

  • Cancel Request
  • Get Extended Event Data
  • Device Reset Request
  • Get Device Status

PIMA 15740 Operations, Responses & Events are decoded and displayed.

Download USBTrace installation and Still Image Capture class decoder from http://www.sysnucleus.com/usbtrace_download.html. We recommend you to evaluate USBTrace, the software only USB protocol analyzer for windows, to know more about the features.
